The Alienist

I didn’t come to care enough about the characters in the television adaptation of The Alienist to rank it among the very best of the streaming series I’ve seen. And the plot of neither season drew me in particularly. In fact, by the end of the second season, I’d forgotten many of the details of the first season. But the series substantially succeeds, to its credit, in creating an authentic-feeling landscape of the privilege and prejudice and grime and promise of turn-of-the-century New York City.
